Proposal for Wells Open 2023.

The Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Capital Virtues were historically the morals to guide folk. These days morality isn’t so straight forward. 

In Seven Bad Good we have been inspired by WB Yeats’ The Second Coming where he writes “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” One could envisage different contexts where passionate intensity and lacking conviction can be both for good and bad.

Our artwork presents seven human attributes using seven pairs of projections of texts that leave to the viewer to interpret and decide what is a sin or virtue. 

Some draft text pairs: Passionate intensity vs Lack all conviction (or Passion vs Apathy); Personal freedom vs Communal responsibility (or Opt out vs Opt in) etc.
